Good Afternoon,

As you know, on January 1, 2022 after an extensive public consultation process, B.C. became the first province in Canada to implement a minimum standard of five days of paid sick leave every year.

We write to advise that today Harry Bains, Minister of Labour introduced Bill 19 – 2022 the Employment Standards Amendment Act, containing changes to address two issues that have been raised since the five days of employer-paid sick leave came into effect. These changes will strengthen paid sick leave legislation to protect workers and simplify the administrative process for businesses.

Thank you,

Danine Leduc
Assistant Deputy Minister
