Dear Fellow PPWC members,

As I pen this farewell letter, I find myself filled with a profound sense of gratitude and humility. Serving as your National President has been one of the greatest honours of my life. Together, we have navigated the complexities of our work environment, championed the rights of our members, and forged a path towards a fairer and more equitable workplace.

I am immensely proud of what PPWC has achieved in it’s 60 plus year’s of history. Our union has grown stronger and more resilient over time, thanks to your unwavering support and dedication. We have successfully negotiated numerous contracts that have improved wages, benefits, and working conditions for our members. Our advocacy has not only enhanced the quality of life for our members but also set a precedent for labour rights in our industry. Be immensely proud of this!

One of our most significant accomplishments has been fostering a sense of unity and solidarity among our members. We come from a vast array of different vocations and communities yet we have stood together through challenges, whether it was fighting for fair pay, ensuring workplace safety, or protecting our jobs from unjust practices. Our collective voice has made a difference, proving that when we stand together, we can overcome even the toughest obstacles.

I am particularly proud of our efforts to improve workplace safety. The implementation of rigorous safety standards and continuous training programs has significantly reduced workplace accidents and injuries. This achievement is a testament to our shared commitment to ensuring that every member can return home safely at the end of each workday. We are leaders in this advocacy!

Our union has also been a steadfast advocate for social justice. We have actively supported initiatives that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within our workplace and beyond. By fostering an environment where everyone feels valued and respected, we have laid the groundwork for a more inclusive and supportive community.

As I step down from my role, I am confident the PPWC is in capable hands. Geoff, Chuck, Chris, Ryan and Barry are our new leadership team. They are dedicated and passionate individuals who share our vision for a just and equitable workplace. I have no doubt that they will continue to build on our successes and lead our union to even greater heights.

To my successor, Geoff Dawe, I offer my full support and best wishes. Leading this union is both a privilege and a responsibility, and I am confident that you will approach it with the same dedication and commitment that has defined our union’s leadership. It has been a pleasure to work with you…my friend!

To our members, I extend my deepest gratitude. Your trust and support have been the cornerstone of our success. It is your hard work, resilience, and determination that have driven our achievements. As I transition to a new chapter, I encourage you to remain engaged and active in our union. Your participation is vital to our continued success.

In closing, I want to emphasize that although I am stepping down from my leadership role, I remain committed to our cause. I will always be a proud member of this PPWC, ready to support and advocate for our collective rights.

Thank you for the privilege of serving as your National President. Together, we have accomplished so much, and I am confident that our best days lie ahead.

In Solidarity,

Kelly Johnson
National President (2022-2024)
